Shopify Sidekick

Sidekick is most useful as a context-aware operating partner inside Shopify, not as an unattended store manager. It can help retrieve information, draft supported material, navigate work, and surface app-specific data or actions.

Capability boundary

Shopify’s own engineering material describes training the assistant to recognise impossible requests. That matters operationally: a confident answer is not evidence that the requested field, segment, or action exists. High-quality use begins by asking Sidekick to show the data or screen behind a conclusion.

App extensions

Sidekick extensions can expose app data and define scoped actions. Shopify’s documentation emphasises that the merchant remains in control of what is updated. This makes extensions a useful model for automation design: retrieve broadly, propose narrowly, and require confirmation for material changes.

Human checkpoint

Before accepting a recommendation, confirm the date range, population, excluded cases, and downstream write. Save reusable prompts only after the question produces a stable answer across representative store conditions.
